THE SHELTER.
The Casa del Buen Trato (The House of Good Treatment in English) is a temporary shelter for children and adolescents who have been victims of sexual abuse; as well as women who have been victims of domestic violence. Recovering Hope has had a relationship with the staff on the ground in Peru since 2012.
The home can support up to 50 children and adolescent mothers at a time. On average, girls will stay for about two years while receiving holistic care; including legal services, psychological therapy, emotional support, health care, social work services, pastoral care, education, and life skills training.
While the children are under protection in the shelter, our staff works with local authorities to fight in court for justice against their abusers. Here, girls receive the support they need and love they deserve, allowing them to recover and live happy, healthy lives. Only after their homes and communities are safe again, do they return home. Many of the older girls leave the shelter to pursue higher education or careers.
